International Doctors in AA is a unique and very supportive Alcoholics Anonymous Conference for recovering doctorate level health care providers, nurse practitioners, CRNA's, PA's and Alanon family members, plus children of all ages. The conference offers many different recovery meetings, as well as meetings for Al-Anon, Twenties', Teens, and the Jerry Moe Program (age 7-12). Throughout the conference there are some 15 different type breakout sessions.
The conference also offers CME and CDE meetings and credits starting on Aug 1st. The beauty of IDAA is that all members of the family are simultaneously attending meetings to help his or her recovery process. There is a multitude of support through sponsors, mentors, and friendships that last a lifetime. Many members have said that they get the support that is missing in their own hometowns due to the stigma of addiction. For many IDAA is where the shame and guilt of being an addicted professional is lifted. At IDAA people feel free and safe to share what is "really going on" without fearing that everyone in their town will find out. For these and many other reasons, members and families come back year after year.
Typically, the schedule involves early bird meetings first thing in the morning at 7 am, a continental breakfast, meetings throughout the day: AA, Alanon, CME, CDE, Ala20's, Alateens, Jerry Moe, and break- out meetings throughout the resort. The meetings are in close proximity except for the teen program.
During the five days, there are two evening banquets, one luncheon, a welcome reception, two banquets for kids, and loads of fun! You can attend meetings, enjoy the hotel and surrounding area of Reno. For those who choose to stay in Reno for our Friday afternoon and evening free time, many options are available including an open "alkathon" Friday evening.
Choices of New York will again provide our bookstore and goodies sales.
Coffee, tea, water will be available throughout the conference, and please check out the Peppermill website https://www.peppermillreno.com for the locations of all the fabulous restaurants, pools, spa, etc.
If you don't want to go to any meetings one day but do the next, it's completely up to you. The meetings are available, and you decide which ones you want to go to.
