Transportation

The 2013 selection team realized that transportation could become an issue with a mountain resort site. One of the most attractive reasons for using this resort is the opportunity for families to rent a condo together for less than the cost of two or more hotel rooms. Some couples may choose to share a two, three or four bedroom condo, as well, which will significantly reduce room costs (see accommodations). Also, Most of us have become comfortable with paying around $50 taxi fare each way from the airport to the hotel. Taking these factors into consideration, the 2012 LAC encourages you to book your transportation accordingly and enjoy the ride along Colorado's scenic I-70 corridor. Your drive will take you under the Continental Divide through the EPIC Eisenhower Tunnel which, at an elevation of 11,158 feet, is the longest tunnel on the interstate system.

There should be no problem booking flights to arrive in Colorado. Denver International Airport is one of the busiest in the nation and offers many connections throughout the world. If you would like to avoid the hassle of a large airport, the Colorado Springs airport offers direct connections on Allegiant Air (low cost from the west), American Airlines, Delta, Frontier and United. Frontier has begun non-stop flights from LA, Phoenix, Portland and Seattle. In September, 2012 it will offer introductory fares for its new non-stop service from Colorado Springs to San Diego and Orlando.

Drive time from DIA is approximately 90 minutes and is essentially a direct route from the airport to Dillon Valley on I-70. Colorado Springs is a little over two hours drive through the scenic South Park area behind Pikes Peak.

Because the mountain area offers so much to see and do, we recommend that you consider renting your transportation-either as individual families or together. Summer rates for rental cars at DIA for 2012 are running $50/day for economy to $65/day for full size. In Colorado Springs comparable sizes are running $13/day to $16/day. There are several shuttles available as well and the Keystone Resort recommends Colorado Mountain Express which will deliver you to the front desk of the resort from DIA for $64 per person. They offer a 20% discount for groups including four or more adults.

The following is a link to a "Rideshare" board where you may want to coordinate your arrivals at DIA or elsewhere with others. This will create the opportunity to share the cost of a rental car or acquire group rates with Colorado Mountain Express Shuttle Service which is recommended by Keystone Resort:

The Keystone Resort has two villages and encompasses over 3000 acres. The lodge and most of the condos are within 5-10 minutes walking time from Conference Center. Keystone Resort regularly hosts summer convention groups and provides regular shuttle service between all of these without charge.

We hope you find time, either before or after, to explore the beauty which lies in the Colorado Rockies.
