IDAA 2011

Children and Teens

In the past few years, the Conference has not been able to promote childcare, because of liability issues, cost, and availability. This year will be different because the Resort already has a Childcare service in place. This service is not the same as Jerry Moe Program and is not the same as the IDAA Children's Banquets.

Starr Pass Resort has a full -service children's recreation service offered for their guests, ages 4-12. It is called Rising Starr Kids Club, and is not affiliated with the conference or IDAA.

Fun-filled days include interactive games and activities that take advantage of the Tucson Experience.

Pre-registration is necessary and can be done by contacting the resort at (520) 792-3500.

Please ask to speak to the concierge to set up your child's reservation.

The Rising Starr Kids Club requires that all participants be fully toilet trained and a parent or guardian be on property and reachable during the child's participation.

Program Fees (as of 5/2010):

Full-Day: $75 (Lunch Included)
9am to 4pm

Half-Day $45 (Snack Included, with Lunch added for additional $10)

Activities include

  • Arts & Crafts that take advantage of the desert by including such elements as wildlife, weather and Tucson's past e.g. decorating visors, paint a t-shirt, making a rain stick, or painting a wooden snake.
  • Hiking and Swimming on Bowen trail or at reflections pool and sliding down the Monsoon Falls and floating around Starr Canyon River.

There is a Rising Starr Policies and Procedures Document which requires signature, as well as the authorization for Emergency Medical Attention and Medical Release.

IDAA is extremely pleased to be able to once again offer a children's program originating from the Betty Ford Center and facilitated by Jerry Moe. This three day program utilizes art, games, and story-telling, films, written exercises, role play and recreation to help youngsters build strengths and deepen their resilience.

Skilled counselors lead special groups for the children.

The program for kid 7-12 years of age, runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with the parents joining the children for part of the last day.

All Jerry Moe Program registered children are required to attend the full program. There is room for 60 kids this year. Please book early, the registration will be on a first come first served bases.

PARENTS: Plan on being there on Saturday at 3:00 pm for the Jerry Moe Program graduation. You won't want to miss it.

This program will be run similar to years past. There continues to be strong support from the Al-Anon committee to make this program an enjoyable learning experience for all participants.
